2020 Word of the Year: Grateful

Each year, in addition to setting traditional New Years resolutions, I choose one word to focus on throughout the entire year. The concept was created by Ali Edwards in 2006 and was designed to inspire her to reflect upon her daily life using just one word. This is my third year choosing a word of the year to focus on (read my 2018 and 2019 words here). Toward the end of the year, I started thinking about what word I’d like my word of the year to be. As I thought of it, I would write it down in my journal followed by the date I thought of the word. Here are the words of the year I brainstormed:
Radiate
Peace
Let it go
Forgive
Grateful
After months of deliberation, I’ve decided that my 2020 word of the year is GRATEFUL.
Last year was a year of growth and I can’t help but feel grateful going into the new year and next decade of life. Out of all the words I brainstormed, starting a new decade off with gratitude made my soul feel good.
Grateful (Adj.): Feeling or showing an appreciation of kindness; thankful.
My friend and Beach Body Coach Instagrams her daily morning routine of jotting down what she’s grateful for. She recently shared that when we record what we’re thankful for, we need to take note of the small moments otherwise, we’ll run out of things to be thankful for if we just recount the big moments. 🤯 Talk about game-changer! I bought a One Line a Day journal to help me recount all that I’m grateful for over the next year and beyond.
Even though the new year just started, there’s already so much to be thankful for.
