How to Master the 'No-Makeup' Makeup Look
I live for a good smokey eye, but the look i've been trying to master lately is the no-makeup makeup look. Really hard to do when you're a makeup junkie like I am! Since putting my lash extensions back on, i've been steering clear of eye makeup and practicing my just-rolled-out-of-bed look and I think i've finally got it down. Here's my guide on how to master the no-makeup makeup look. BEE-TEE-DUBBS: SO SUPER EASY!
Skin: Start with a clean face and a brightening product to give your skin that lit-from-within glow. I've been testing (and loving!) the Glossier Super Glow Serum. It's water-like texture is perfect for oily skin and is the best way to start your day. Lock the goodness in with your favorite moisturizer and don't forget the sunscreen!
Brows: I personally like a bolder brow, but I do suggest a more fluffy brow for the no-makeup makeup look. Start by outlining the base of your brow then lightly blend that line upwards into your brow using a spoolie. Next create hair-like strokes in any open spaces.
Foundation & Concealer: Most people will skip the foundation, but I like to spot conceal any blemishes with cream foundation. My current favorite is one I've been using since the beginning of the year and it's the Hourglass Vanish Seamless Stick Foundation. I also use a tiny bit of concealer to brighten any darkness under the eyes. Then I set my face with a powder foundation like the Benefit Hello Flawless Powder Foundation.
Bronzer: Add warmth back into your skin using a warm-tone bronzer. My favorite is the Mac Cosmetics Bronzing Powder in Refined Golden. Using a fluffy brush and the magic three method, swipe on your bronzer starting at your temples, then drag it down toward your cheek bones, and again down your jawline.
Highlighter: This is definitely my favorite part about the no-makeup makeup look. I'm naturally oily so I always have a natural glow to my skin. But when I add highlighter to the tops of my cheekbones, brow bone, and tip of my nose and then set it with a setting spray — daaaamn gina! IT'S. SO. FREAKING. PRETTY. My two favorite highlighters are the Laura Geller Illuminator in Gilded Honey and the Sephora Collection Radiant Luminizing Drops in Ultralight.
Blush: This step is optional, but if you want to add a bit of color back into your cheeks, go with a pink blush or cheek stain.
Setting Spray: This is probably the most important step in mastering the no-makeup makeup look. Setting spray helps to melt the makeup into your skin making the makeup look less like makeup and more like skin. I love the Mario Badescu Rosewater Facial Spray — two spritz of this and my look is golden.
Lips: Keep the lips neutral with a nude lipstick or lip gloss. I have lots of nude lipsticks but Kim from the Kylie Cosmetics x KKW Lip Creme set (discontinued) paired with Mac Cosmetics Lip Pencil in Cork has is my everyday lip for work and play.
