I just finished reading The Wedding Date by Jasmine Guillory and I’m kicking myself for not reading it earlier because it was THAT good. This book has been on my To Be Read list for months and after picking it up and putting it back a couple of times, I finally bought it at an airport book store and read 75% of it on my red eye to San Francisco. (I was even more excited to read it once I found it was based in Berkeley.)

Summary

After Drew gets stranded in an elevator with a pretty stranger named Alexa, he has the craziest idea to ask her to be his date to his ex-best friend and ex-girlfriend’s wedding. Although it's unlike anything she's ever done, Alexa accepts the invitation and they have a great time. When they return to their separate lives—Drew to L.A. and Alexa to Berkeley—and high powered jobs, they both can't stop thinking about each other. Their light, flirty, long-distance relationship can only go on so long before one or the other wants more.

My General Impression of This Book

I love Jasmine Guillory’s writing. There’s so much detail but also lots of room for imagination—like in the love “scenes”. 😉 I love that she created Alexa to be SO relatable. It’s like she read my journal and recreated Alexa from it.

Alexa worried about things I worried about when I first started dating my fiancé—like, being heavy and having a soft belly. (Heck those are things I still struggle with today and we’ve been together for 10 years!) I did have a love / hate relationship about her overthinking, but honestly, it was probably because she reminded me so much of me.

Drew was both dreamy and annoying at the same time. His thought process and commitment issues made me frustrated. But, him being a pediatric surgeon made him that much more attractive.

I don’t want to spoil the ending, so I’ll end this book review by saying I’m happy for them.
