Book Review: Party of Two by Jasmine Guillory
I think it’s safe to say that Jasmine Guillory is my favorite contemporary romance author. Last year, I picked up her first book, The Wedding Date, in an airport book store and read 75% of it on my red-eye to San Francisco. It was THE book that made me want to read more in 2020. (Follow my bookstagram, @readwithjessika #readwithjessika, for more book recommendations!)
Party of Two is Jasmine’s fifth book of The Wedding Date series and is about Olivia Monroe, Alexa from The Wedding Date’s, older sister. (You do not need to read the stories in order to enjoy the books; Although, it is fun when other characters make a cameo.)
Olivia just moved from New York to LA to start her own law firm. During her first week there, she chats up a handsome man at the hotel’s bar. She convinces herself she doesn’t have time for a relationship, but wouldn’t say no if he invited her to his room for a nightcap. The nightcap doesn’t happen, but when she gets to her room, she realizes the handsome man is none other than California’s senator, Max Powell.
When they reconnect at a conference a few weeks later, sparks fly and soon they are falling in love. As their relationship blossoms, Max wants nothing more but to be able to shout his love for Olivia to the world. Olivia’s not one for the spotlight, especially when it’s not on her terms. Can she keep up with the demands as the most eligible bachelor’s new girlfriend, or will she get burned?
I loved that Olivia finally got her own story. She’s smart, witty, and so, so, so, SO relatable. I loved the whole famous person dating a normal person storyline and how thoughtful Max was throughout the entire book. My favorite part is when he sent her a chocolate cake after learning she liked desserts. (My love language is receiving gifts and quality time so pretty much everything he did made my heart melt.) This was a fun, smart, and sexy read and I can’t recommend it enough.
